Career Profile

Professor Onyeka Iwuchukwu is a Professor of Comparative Literature at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN)and currently the Director of Calabar Study Centre of the University. Previously, she taught as a lecturer at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka.

Presently, in NOUN she teaches courses online and records instructional videos which are uploaded for easy accessibility for the students. All the courses are developed as books by academic staff and made available for students online and in print. She has written five of such books, co-authored one and published ten plays.

Her articles have been published as chapters in books and in learned journals. She has presented papers at local and international conferences. She is the founder and Director of NOUN Theatre. She was a visiting scholar at the Wright State University Ohio USA, 2014 and just concluded my visiting professor tenure at the Theatre Academy of the University of Arts Helsinki Finland. She has propounded Feminist theory, Focu- Feminism.

“I joined the National Open University of Nigeria as Lecturer II in 2006 from where from where I rose to the rank of a Professor in 2018. I participated in all aspects of academic schedule in the University. I set TMAs and examination questions; wrote six course materials (books); an online facilitator; recorded instruction video(I received University commendation letter with a cash award for this); coordinated examination script marking; been part of examination monitoring team and presently, the Centre Director, Calabar Study Centre.
I am the founder and Director of Noun Theatre; coordinated the NOUN Brand Ambassador Project; an associate producer of advocacy film “”I believe”” for the university. the film is an adaptation of my play, Enough is Enough (2014). I created and taught a course “”Encountering Worlds”” as part of my visiting professor project at the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts, Helsinki, Finland. in addition, I participated in teaching other courses in the University. I have been an external and internal assessor for two candidates’ promotion to professorship. I have also been an external examiner for undergraduates’ projects at UNIPORT and for Masters projects and PhD dissertations at UNIZIK.”
